In particular, Chan is anticipating three types of attacks: coordinated ransomware attacks, data wiping attacks and continued spear-phishing campaigns. Organizations can protect themselves from 80% to 90% of these by implementing basic cybersecurity hygiene, he says.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSA Conference 2022, Chan discusses:
- Gaps in organizations' ransomware response;
- How the FBI is preparing for the 2022 U.S. midterm elections;
- How organizations can prepare for the risk of Russian cyber retaliation against the U.S.
Chan manages a squad responsible for investigating national security cyber matters. He is a decorated agent who is recognized within the Intelligence Community as a cyberterrorism expert. Chan was the lead agent on significant cyber investigations and managed joint counterterrorism operations with domestic and foreign law enforcement agencies. Prior to joining the FBI, he was a process development engineer in the semiconductor industry for 12 years.
